Every project has a springboard and for this graceful open floor plan it was capturing an expression of the natural elements. The oversized window over the sink brings in the sunny leafy vista, but we were after more…an executed design that would express earth, water and air. The distressed putty finish on the perimeter complements the sandy floorboards and the thick walnut top (earth), while the bold navy island is reflected in the paint on the walls (water). To add the air element, we incorporated mullions and medallions with seeded glass throughout. What was particularly fun about working on this project was adding interesting, unique detail without disturbing the natural aesthetic. A great example is the highly functional two-height island which houses an induction cooktop, wine refrigerator and seating for three at the island height and two more at the raised bar height, capped with 3” thick magnificent walnut top with decorative edge.
